I have done a lot of small things in my free time. Programs I mean. Some are utilities, some are games. Most of them are pretty useless I think. But some might be good for something.
What I put a lot of effort into is RPG (Role Playing Games) tools. For example, one of my projects is a calendar that can be used for World of Darkness games. It displays sunrise and sunset times, location information, moon phases. Great tool for Werewolves and Vampires 🙂
But it is only used by my gaming team.
I have wondered how to monetize such ideas, but I am really bad at this business thing. I had always trouble selling things.
After giving it a lot of thought, I decided instead of just sitting on things, I will make them open source. Not everything at once, but bit by bit. This blog is here to document it all.
Open source is also wonderful because it takes off the pressure of creating a “full release package”. Everything fully documented, everything commented, everything working. Yes, I am sadly quite the perfectionist when it comes to my work. 🙂 I want everything to be perfect. At least if I wanted to “sell” things.
Instead, now anyone will be able to check these things out, to comment on them, or to base projects off them. I am not suggesting these are lacking in quality – they just lack the final polish you would find on something you buy from a shop.
